How Sibr protects respondents' privacy
By Sibr teamUpdated
Sibr shows creators your answers by response number, never by your username or account, and keeps written answers visible only to the creator. In paid studies you choose, per study, which uses and profile details you agree to, and AI training is always a separate choice that starts unticked.
Sibr is a polling, survey and paid-study app on the Internet Computer, open to Pi Network users and everyone else. This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your data. The Privacy Policy is the full legal version.
What does Sibr collect when I sign in?
It depends on how you sign in:
- With Pi: Sibr keeps your Pi user ID and Pi username. It does not store your access token and never receives your real name, email address or wallet details.
- With Internet Identity (Google, Apple or a passkey): Sibr receives an anonymous identifier that is unique to Sibr. It does not receive your Google or Apple email address, your name or your passkey. You choose a Sibr username.
Profile details such as country, nationality and gender are optional. Your country decides whether you can take part in polls and surveys limited to certain countries.
Sibr will never ask for your Pi Wallet passphrase, private keys or passwords.
What can a survey creator see?
| What | Creator sees it? |
|---|---|
| Your answers | Yes, under a response number |
| Your username or account | No |
| Your written answers | Yes, and only the creator |
| When you submitted | Yes |
| Your profile details | Only in paid studies, only the ones you tick, in ranges |
Creators can download all responses as a CSV file with response numbers and submission times. Once downloaded, the creator is responsible for how they use it, and Sibr's Terms forbid asking respondents for passwords, wallet passphrases, payment details or other sensitive information.
If a creator turns on Show results to everyone, people who answered can see the combined totals, but never written answers.
For polls, other users see totals per option, not how you voted.
How does consent work in paid studies?
Before every paid study, Sibr shows a consent step:
- Part of this study: uses you agree to by starting. Research, meaning the creator reads and analyses your answers, is always included.
- Your choice: optional uses, such as quotes of your written answers without your name, or a public anonymised dataset. They start unticked and you are paid the same either way.
- AI training: always shown on its own with its own checkbox. When it is optional, saying no does not change your pay. When a study is built for AI training, it says so up front and you can only take part if you agree.
- Profile details: each detail the study asks for is a separate unticked choice.
Your choices are recorded with the study, and the creator's export includes the consent version, the uses you accepted and when. This follows the idea in European data protection law that a consent request should be clearly separate from other matters, in plain language.
You can leave a study before submitting. Leaving is not paid and your answers are not kept.
What is the research profile?
An optional set of details, such as age band, languages, education, work sector and interests, that you fill in once in your profile. It is private. A study only sees the details you tick for that study, and in ranges where it matters: an age band such as 25 to 34, never your birth year.
You can edit or delete your research profile at any time. After you delete it, study results downloaded from then on no longer include those details.
What do AI teams and research buyers receive?
The same as any creator: answers with a response number, never a username, user ID or account identifier. A study export adds the verification tier, timing, attention check results, the consent record and only the profile details each respondent agreed to share. Read Verified human respondents for why that matters.
Where is my data stored?
Your account, polls, surveys, votes, answers and SIBR history are stored in a canister on the Internet Computer. Data is replicated across the independent computers that run its part of the network, which may be in different countries. It is processed by those node operators but not published on a public ledger.
What about analytics?
Sibr's website uses three outside services, and we want to be upfront about them:
- Google Analytics measures visits, including pages viewed, browser, device and approximate location based on your IP address.
- Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used, such as clicks and scrolling, and can create session replays.
- InstantDB shows how many people are online. While you are signed in, your username and an account identifier are shared in a live presence channel that other users may see.
Sibr does not intentionally send your name, survey answers or SIBR balance to these services, and they are not used for personalised advertising. You can block them with a content blocker and Sibr still works.
Can I ask Sibr to delete my data?
You can request access, correction or deletion through Sibr's official channels, subject to legal exceptions and keeping results and balances correct for other users. You can delete your own unpublished survey drafts and your research profile yourself. Sibr is for people 18 and over.
How to do it on Sibr
- Check what others can see: your profile details and SIBR balance are never shown to other users.
- In a paid study, read the consent step and tick only what you agree to.
- To change or remove your research profile, open your profile and edit it or choose Delete my research profile.
- Unsure about a term such as consent use? See the Sibr glossary.
- As a creator, ask only for what you need and handle exports with care. See Results, insights and CSV export.

Frequently asked questions
- Can a survey creator see my name?
- No. Survey results and CSV exports list answers by response number, not by username or account. Written answers are visible only to the creator.
- Does Sibr sell my data?
- No. Sibr does not sell personal information. It shares data only with the services needed to run the app, with survey creators as described in the Privacy Policy, for legal reasons, or with your consent.
- Will my answers be used to train AI?
- Only if you agree. In paid studies, AI training is always a separate checkbox that starts unticked. If a study is built for AI training, it says so before you start and you can choose not to take part.
- Can I delete my research profile?
- Yes, at any time from your profile. Study results downloaded after that no longer include your profile details.
- Where is my data stored?
- In a canister, a smart contract, on the Internet Computer. It is replicated across the independent computers that run that part of the network. It is not published on a public ledger.
